NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio-- Another Northeast Ohio police department is cracking down on some players of the popular smart phone app Pokemon Go.
Since the weekend, police in North Royalton have handed out six citations to people caught playing Pokemon Go at the wrong place or at the wrong time.
FOX 8 caught up with 8-year-old Jayden Hales and his 6-year-old brother, Logan, using their smart phone to play the increasingly-popular game at Memorial Park in North Royalton.
"I wasted all of the Pokemons on trying to get one in the car, so basically we really couldn't play the game anymore to trap all the Pokemons," said Jayden.
"They enjoy playing it. You come here and you find your Pokemon and try to capture him and whatever," said the boys’ father, Craig Hales.
"It's just something fun for all of us to go do together and the boys like it. And so, I go more to go for a walk," said their mother Brittany Hales.
But North Royalton police said not all people are playing by the rules, so to speak, and officers are cracking down. On Thursday, a resident called police after seeing a suspicious car parked in their driveway. Police said the driver, who was playing Pokemon Go, was told to stay off private property.
Around 1 a.m. Saturday, police said they found a man and woman walking through Memorial Park playing the game. The park closes at dusk and the two were given citations for trespassing.
Then, early Monday morning, four people were cited for trespassing at the park in three separate incidents. Police said all were playing Pokemon Go after the park had closed.
"You don't know what else might happen and then once they're in the park and stuff; If it is just purely just innocent or if there trouble could arise. But we're definitely not those people that are out here at night," Brittany Hales said.
North Royalton police remind Pokemon players not go onto private property and stay out of public parks after dark.
"Kind of gets you out of the house, go to the park or whatever and walk around. The kids enjoy it, so it's kind of fun to enjoy it with the family," Craig Hales said.
